Are We Spiritual Beings Having a Human Experience?

Reading Time: 6 minutes

There is much debate on whether we are spiritual beings having a human experience or vice versa. Both sides have valid points. Some say that we are human beings with us sometimes having a spiritual experience while others have the opinion that we are purely spiritual beings who are just temporarily inhabiting human bodies and that our souls are eternal and our bodies are just temporary vessels. There are those who believe that we are both, that we have a spiritual side and a human side and that the two are intertwined.

We don’t know for sure if there is a right or wrong answer and ultimately it’s a matter of personal belief and experiences. But it’s an interesting question to consider, and one that may help us to better understand ourselves and our place in the universe.

Are We Spiritual Beings Who Are Using Human Bodies to Experience Life in A Physical Way?

If we are spiritual beings having a human experience, it means that we are essentially spiritual beings who are using the human form as a vessel to experience life in a physical way. This can be a positive or negative experience, depending on our perspective.

If we view it as a positive experience, we should see it as an opportunity to learn and grow. We can use our human experiences to expand our consciousness and become more spiritually aware. We can also use our experiences to help navigate others who are still on their spiritual journey.

Conversely, if we view it as a negative experience we could see this as a burden or a hindrance. We may feel trapped in our human form and become fixated on that we are not where (or who) we should be. Or just long to return to our spiritual home. We may also feel like we’re missing out on something or that we’re not living up to our true potential. If this is the case stop a while and try to understand that you are actually exactly where you’re supposed to be. You’re not trapped here you’re meant to be here. This can be really hard if you’ve had some horrible experiences, so if need be reach out for help. We have a post that might help understand what we mean by a soul choosing these experiences – it’s not as clear cut as you might think.

Whatever your point of view there are many things that point to the idea that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. For one, many people have experiences that cannot be explained by science. These could be things like precognition, out-of-body experiences, past life memories or Deja vu moments. If we are just merely human beings why is it so difficult to explain why many of us would have these types of experiences?

It would be safe to say that most of us have experienced some degree of intuition, that “gut feeling” or “sixth sense” of knowing without knowing. Is this what partly makes us human or is it something from a higher level of consciousness? Some suggest that intuition is a spiritual experience, a form of guidance that allows us to tap into a higher level of consciousness.

While there has been some research suggesting that the brain is capable of making split-second decisions without involving the conscious mind indicating that we have an unconscious “intuition” system that is constantly at work. The research has concluded that people who are good at making intuitive decisions are not necessarily more intelligent than others. Instead, they tend to be more open-minded and flexible in their thinking, making them more likely to trust their gut feelings and act on them.

There is a sense of self that is separate from our physical bodies. This is something that many people experience when they have a Near Death Experience. Often recalling seeing their own body from above and sometimes even leaving their body altogether. The jury is still out on whether these experiences are ‘real’ (i.e., whether the person is able to see what is happening in the 3D world in real time) or whether they’re creations of the mind due to neurotransmitters released during extreme stress. More research is warranted on this subject.

Another thing that points to our spiritual nature is the fact that we seem to be more than just our physical bodies. We have thoughts, emotions, and desires that are not physical.  Or is this what makes us human?

Either way, it’s important to remember that we are far more than just our physical bodies. Our bodies are just the vehicles that we are using to experience this life. They are not who we are.

What Does It Mean to Have a Human Experience?

When we talk about having a human experience we are talking about the ability to feel, think and experience life in a way that is to the best of our knowledge, unique to our species. This includes both the positive and negative aspects of life from the joy of a new baby to the pain of losing a loved one. It is the ability to love and be loved, to experience both happiness and sadness, sometimes at the same time.

Some people believe that part of what makes us human is our capacity for self-awareness. This is the ability to see ourselves as separate from the rest of the world and to understand our own thoughts and feelings. This gives us a sense of who we are and how we fit into the world around us. Contrarily though, this ability to see ourselves seperately from the rest of the world is one significant hindrance to growing spiritually.

We have a conscience, an inner voice that has the ability to guide us. Is that inner voice purely of ourselves or is it open to the influence of spirit?

The concept of conscience is often used interchangeably with that of morality, but there is an important distinction to be made between the two. Morality refers to the codes of conduct that a culture, society or group upholds, while conscience refers to an individual’s personal sense of right and wrong. In other words morality is about what is considered right or wrong in a given context, while conscience is about what an individual believes is right or wrong regardless of what others may think.

Other aspects of what it means to be human include our ability to reason and think logically, to use language and to create and appreciate art. We are also social creatures, who need to feel a sense of connection to others.

All of these things contribute to our unique human experience. It is what makes us who we are and allows us to interact with the world in a way that is unlike any other species on earth.

What Is a Spiritual Experience?

A spiritual experience is an experience that has a profound impact on a person’s life and outlook. It can be something as simple as a moment of clarity during meditation, or as life-changing as a near death experience. Spiritual experiences can be positive or negative but they always involve a sense of transcendence and a deep sense of connection to something larger than oneself.

Spiritual experiences are often hard to put into words, but they can have a lasting impact on a person’s life. For many people, a spiritual experience is a turning point that leads to a new way of looking at the world. If you have had a spiritual experience, you may find yourself feeling more connected to the world around you, or more attuned to your own inner thoughts and feelings. You may also find yourself questioning your previous beliefs or looking for new ways to find meaning in your life. If this is the first time you’ve experienced this then you may be awakening spiritually. This is an exciting time.

No matter what your spiritual experience was like, it is sure to have left you feeling changed in some way. If you are looking for ways to make sense of your experience there are many resources available to help you. You can talk to a spiritual counselor or life counselor, read books about spirituality or join a spiritual community.

So then the question is, were you just a human being having a spiritual experience? Or are you a spiritual being living a human experience and remembering who you really are? Only you can know what you believe about that question.

Summary

Deciding whether we’re spiritual beings having a human experience or just humans who occasionally have spiritual experiences is a very personal matter. For some no evidence is needed, for others no evidence is possible.

And that’s the rub really. Spirituality is not a physics experiment that can be repeatedly tested and a null hypothosis formed. Science needs repeatable and deniable experiments to be able to decide if something is true or not. Spirituality isn’t like that.

So when it comes down to it it’s going to be your choice which is the right answer. Are you a spiritual being having a human experience, or are you just a human who occasionally gets spiritual vibes. It’s up to you!
